The CPA and SoS announce partnership to improve health and wellbeing through better use of medicines.

The Commonwealth Pharmacists Association (CPA) and Spoonful of Sugar (SoS) have announced a new partnership based on their shared goals of improving access to quality pharmaceutical care and advancing the better use of medicines in all settings.

The announcement has sparked tremendous excitement in both organisations. The partnership will enable them to work closely to innovate, conduct cutting-edge research, and source funding for initiatives to optimise medicines use in a range of low and middle-income settings. This will draw upon their combined expertise in pharmacy and behavioural medicine.

The CPA has a long history of working in partnerships to enhance use of medicines in some of the world’s poorest nations. Their ties with grassroots, as well as pharmacy, and government-led organisations offers great potential to harness the capacity of pharmacy in low-resource settings. Through empowering and educating on optimal medicines usage they aim to increase health and wellbeing across the Commonwealth. A resurgence of interest in the Commonwealth in the current political climate is expected to aid this further.

Spoonful of Sugar (SoS) are a specialist behaviour-change consultancy applying behavioural science to close the gap between effective treatment and best patient outcomes. Founded by Professor Rob Horne in 2011, they translate the ongoing insights from over 25 years of global research to design practical programmes helping patients get the best from medicines.

Together, the two organisations aim to change behaviours underpinning the use of medicines for the advancement of health and wellbeing especially in lower and middle-income countries.

‘I am very excited to announce our new partnership with Spoonful of Sugar, who will be working hard to support our fundraising and grant capacity. As a newly established charity we have a whole new potential to make a difference and I believe this partnership will provide the support we need to realise our vision of providing greater support to our members, particularly through the creation of evidence that is so essential to underpin our advocacy and educational work’ – Victoria Rutter, Executive Director, Commonwealth Pharmacy Association

‘I am delighted to have this opportunity to partner with the Commonwealth Pharmacy Association, we both have at the heart of our missions the desire to see medicines used effectively. The CPA have a huge network of dedicated people and organisations who are supporting the use of medicines to improve health and wellbeing and an opportunity to support their work with the most up-to-date evidence is fantastic’ – Dr Tom Kenny, CEO, Spoonful of Sugar
