Where can it be used?
The IPQ™ is a widely used tool with proven reliability and validity, including responsiveness to change following intervention, it has been established across a wide range of illnesses and 36 countries.
How does it work?
The IPQ™ measures:
- Cognitive representations of illness – identity, consequences, timeline, treatment control and personal control
- Illness concern
- Emotional impact of illness
- Perceived understanding of the illness – coherence
It consists of a set of items each addressing a single dimension. The item responses are scored on a Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) from 1 to 10 with text anchors at each end e.g. no effect at all at zero and severely affects my life at 10.
